Tharu Kalyankari Sabha
Tharu Kalyankari Sabha (TKS) is one of Nepal’s oldest and major organizations representing the Tharu community. It was established in B.S. 2005 (1948/49) to promote the social, cultural, educational, and economic development of Tharus and to protect their rights and identity.
Tharu Kalyankari Sabha (थारु कल्याणकारिणी सभा) is a community-based umbrella organization established to unite and empower Tharu people across Nepal. Its main objectives include eliminating harmful social practices, increasing education and awareness, preserving Tharu language, culture, and traditions, and improving the social and economic condition of the Tharu community.
The organization has historically played an important role in Tharu social reform, cultural preservation and advocacy for community rights. It has worked to reduce illiteracy, child marriage, dowry-related practices and other social problems while encouraging education, social awareness and community development.
In more recent decades, the Sabha has also become an important platform for advocating Tharu identity, representation, equality and political rights. It is regarded as a major representative organization of the Tharu community in Nepal.
